Projects

Here are some of the research and development projects I am currently involved with or have been in recent years.

DUAL.AI.TEACHer: AI-Powered Teaching and AI Education for Future-Proof Education

2026 - 2028 | Funded by the European Commission, Teachers Academies program

This project aims to equip teachers across Europe with the skills and competences needed to teach with AI and teach about AI. It addresses the growing gap in AI knowledge among educators by developing a dual-perspective approach that integrates AI into pedagogy while fostering students' understanding of AI as a subject. The initiative is in line with the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) and supports the EU's priorities for innovation, inclusion and digital transformation.

Saaargadelos: Apoyando la revisión, calificación y analítica automatizados de la evaluación para la digitalización de oportunidades de aprendizaje mejoradas

2024 - 2027 | Funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades

This project aims to enhance the support of computer systems for the grading and review of assessments in education. The project involves research in highly relevant areas within both the computing and educational fields. On the computing side, it proposes research into deep learning models, such as those based on BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), LLMs (Large Language Models), and generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) like GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformers). This research is intended to develop solutions for the automated scoring of short answers, the analysis of qualitative data to identify specific text fragments in responses, and the generation of automated feedback for students.

ENGood: Engineering for Good: Including social perspective in Engineering programs

2023 - 2026 | Funded by the European Commission, Erasmus+ program

The project aims to develop a training program for a multidimensional enhancement of technology courses, integrating the analysis and evaluation of engineering technologies from different perspectives: political, economic, and environmental. The ultimate goal of the project is to equip future engineers with the necessary skills to conduct a comprehensive examination of how new technologies—and even their commercialization—can have an impact on a personal, social, economic, or political level.

OUT_DOOR: Blended Outdoor Learning for fostering the employability of newly graduates

2023 - 2026 | Funded by the European Commission, Erasmus+ program

This project addresses the need to bridge the gap between formal education and the demands of a rapidly evolving society and labor market. To achieve this objective, a training program based on outdoor learning methodologies will be developed.

eXcape: XR escape room - soft skills training for the modern learner

2024 - 2026 | Funded by the European Commission, Cooperation partnerships in higher education

The project aims to equip students with social skills through practical educational tools enhanced with augmented reality. By immersing students in an XR simulation, we will create a learning experience that maximizes their potential for success, increases their cognitive abilities, and improves their understanding of the training material. With this innovative approach, we can help students acquire the skills necessary to achieve academic excellence.

Abraxas: Best practices for high-immersion experiences design

2024 - 2026 | Funded by the European Commission, Erasmus+ program

The project will include several key activities, among them: developing the scope of the 3D experience course content, creating the course's multimedia content assisted by proprietary VR tools, and conducting usability tests. The main outcome of the project will be an educational training program based on VR exercises. The program will be offered both to educational institutions and to individual students who wish to use it in their self-learning process. It will be a step towards introducing innovative teaching practices, especially through the use of VR as a tool for learning by doing.

Vixia: Vigilancia de la ideación de suicidio en adolescentes: herramientas tecnológicas

2022 - 2025 | Funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, proyectos de Transición Ecológica y Transición Digital

This project addresses the development of a non-intrusive, multimodal technological solution for the early detection of suicide risk in adolescents, with the goal of achieving clinical validity. It will investigate which data sources are most relevant for detecting whether these individuals are at risk of suicide. The new platform will be realized through a multimodal and flexible environment, featuring a mobile application for devices such as tablets, smartphones, or smart speakers to interact with the young person, both at home and outside it.

Gavin: Arquitectura basada en blockchain para la gestión universal de información compatible con el RGPD en el ámbito de la formación, aprendizaje y educación

2023 - 2025 | Funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, proyectos de Transición Ecológica y Transición Digital

The project proposes a blockchain-based software architecture for the management, issuance, and automatic verification of all types of academic credentials and information, guaranteeing immutability, traceability, and verification by authorized third parties. The main technological innovation lies in the incorporation, from the design phase, of strict compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as an essential and differentiating requirement compared to previous initiatives, which do not fully address legal requirements.

Worldplaces: Workplaces working for women's integration

2023 - 2025 | Funded by the European Comission, Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund

The project aims to support the integration of women in the workplace by developing a platform that provides resources, training, and networking opportunities tailored to their needs. It will focus on creating an inclusive environment that addresses gender-specific challenges in professional settings.
